Private Home & Baby Camera
OffgridCam
Two iPhones, one app — one becomes the Camera, the other becomes the Viewer. No account, no server, no subscription.
What it does
OffgridCam turns two iPhones into a home or baby camera — connected directly over your home WiFi. No data is ever routed through a server unless you explicitly turn on away-from-home alerts.
One iPhone becomes the Camera, the other becomes the Viewer. They connect directly over the same WiFi network — no relay server, no company sitting between your camera and your phone. Pairing is done with a QR code scan, and the Viewer can reconnect automatically afterward without rescanning.
Live viewing
- Live video and audio streaming from Camera to Viewer, direct over the local network
- Multiple Viewers can watch the same Camera at once, independently
- Pinch-to-zoom on the Viewer controls the Camera's real optical/digital zoom
- Push-to-talk, supporting up to 4 people talking through the Camera at once
- Auto-reconnect if the connection drops, with a clear failure message if it can't recover
- "Turn Screen Off" power-saving mode on the Camera while it keeps streaming
Recording
- Local recording only, stored on the Camera device — never uploaded
- Continuous mode (rotating segments) or motion/sound-triggered clips
- Adjustable recording quality and storage cap (4/8/16/32/64GB), with automatic oldest-first cleanup
- Motion detection tuned to ignore lighting and exposure shifts, not just any pixel change
- Sound detection built on Apple's on-device sound classifier, filtered to relevant events like crying, screaming, or barking
- Viewer can browse, play, download, and share recordings over the same direct WiFi connection
Away-from-home alerts (opt-in)
The one feature that touches the internet, and it's off by default. When turned on, the Camera generates an 8-character home code — this controls who can join, and can be regenerated at any time to instantly cut off anyone using the old one. A short clip and thumbnail upload for each detected event so a Viewer can be notified even away from home WiFi, with every clip capped in size and length before upload. Only whoever has the home code can see that home's clips — there's no separate access path for us to view them.
Pricing
Planned as a one-time purchase — no subscription, no recurring data-collection incentive. Final pricing will be confirmed at App Store launch.
Frequently asked questions
Does OffgridCam need an internet connection to work?
No, not for the core features. Camera and Viewer connect directly over the same home WiFi — live video, audio, push-to-talk, and browsing recordings all work with no internet connection and no server in between. Only the optional away-from-home alerts feature requires internet access.
Does OffgridCam require an account?
No. There is no account, sign-up, or login at any point — pairing is done with a QR code scan between two iPhones.
Are recordings uploaded to the cloud?
No. Recordings are stored locally on the Camera device only, and the Viewer browses, plays, downloads, and shares them over the same direct WiFi connection.
Is there a subscription?
No — OffgridCam is planned as a one-time purchase.
Is OffgridCam available on the App Store?
Not yet. OffgridCam is currently in TestFlight beta.
