A Reddit User Found a Sync Bug in OffgridStem. Here's What Happened Next.

July 2026

A few days after OffgridStem shipped, someone on Reddit left a comment that made my stomach drop a little: "It seems like the audio stems are no longer synchronized at the end?"

That's about as bad as feedback gets for an app whose entire job is producing clean, usable stems. A separation that drifts out of sync isn't a minor annoyance — it makes the output unusable.

First step: don't panic, reproduce it

Before touching any code, the first job was confirming the bug was real and understanding when it happened. I ran the same kind of track myself and could hear it — on longer tracks, the separated stems would very gradually drift apart, becoming noticeably out of sync by the end of the file.

That "gradually, over a longer file" pattern is a specific kind of clue. It usually points to small timing errors that don't matter individually but compound over time — the kind of bug that's easy to miss in short test clips and only shows up once you're testing with real, full-length songs.

Fixing it, and shipping it

Once the cause was clear, the fix itself was the more straightforward part. The harder part, as a one-person studio, is the gap between "I fixed it on my machine" and "the fix is actually live for the person who reported it" — that means testing against a range of track lengths, submitting the update for App Store review, and waiting.

The update is live now. Stems stay in sync regardless of track length.

Why this is worth writing about

It would be easy to leave a bug like this unmentioned once it's fixed. But early feedback — especially the specific, technical kind this Reddit comment was — is genuinely one of the most useful things a small app can get. Someone took the time to describe exactly what they heard, which made this fixable in a day instead of a mystery for weeks.

If you're using OffgridStem and something looks or sounds off, reporting it helps more than you'd think — [email protected], or find us on Reddit.
