How to Set Up Away-From-Home Alerts on OffgridCam

OffgridCam is built to work entirely over your home WiFi, with no account and no server in the loop. That's the whole point of it — but it also means that, by default, there's no way to check on things while you're actually away from home. Away-from-home alerts are the one opt-in exception to that, and this guide covers exactly what turning it on does before you decide whether you want it.

What this feature actually does

Before switching it on, it's worth knowing exactly what changes:

• Off by default — nothing about OffgridCam touches the internet unless you turn this on
• When something is detected, a short clip uploads — capped in size, not a continuous stream
• The clip is tied to a regenerable home code unique to your setup, not a company account
• There's no separate access path for us to view any of it — the code is yours to hold or reset
• Everything else — live viewing over WiFi, local recording — keeps working exactly the same either way

Step by step

1. Open OffgridCam on the Camera device and go to Settings.
2. Find Away-From-Home Alerts and turn it on — it's off until you do this.
3. Choose what triggers an alert: motion, sound, or both.
4. Note your home code, shown on the same screen — this is what protects any clip that gets sent.
5. If you ever want to cut off access to past alerts, regenerate the code from the same settings screen.
