OffgridScribe 2.0: Automatic Speaker Labels, Offline From the First Launch
November 2026
OffgridScribe 2.0 is out on the App Store. It's our biggest update yet, and the rule hasn't changed: your recordings and transcripts never leave your iPhone.
Most of what people asked us for after launch came down to two things. They wanted to know who said what without tagging every line by hand. And they wanted to start recording faster, often in the moment an interview begins. Version 2.0 does both, and adds a set of tools for people who handle confidential conversations for a living.
Know who said what
Speakers are now labelled automatically, so a transcript comes out attributed instead of as one wall of text. You can rename speakers to real names, and for notes recorded before 2.0, tapping Identify Speakers adds labels to them too. If you prefer the old way, you can still tag speakers live while you record. We covered when each approach works best in our guide to labelling speakers.
Record in one tap
- Start recording from a Lock Screen widget or Control Centre (iOS 18 or later).
- A new Start Recording shortcut works with Siri, Shortcuts and the Action Button.
- Recording carries on when the screen locks, pauses for phone calls and resumes afterwards.
Offline from the very first launch
Earlier versions downloaded the transcription model the first time you opened the app. In 2.0 the offline models ship inside the app, so transcription works without an internet connection from the start. On iOS 26, OffgridScribe also uses Apple's new speech engine for faster, more accurate transcripts.
It now transcribes 12 spoken languages, including Cantonese, and summaries are written in the same language as the transcript.
AI tools that stay on your phone
- Summary templates for a general summary, SOAP notes, client interviews and therapy session notes.
- Your own templates, written in your practice's format.
- Ask questions about a note and pull out action items, with optional Reminders.
- Translate summaries and transcripts without uploading a word.
The AI features use Apple Intelligence, so they need an iPhone 15 Pro or later with Apple Intelligence turned on. Transcription works on every supported device. As always, treat a summary as a draft and check it against the transcript.
Privacy and peace of mind
- Lock the app with Face ID or your passcode.
- Password-encrypted backup and restore, with no iCloud needed.
- Optionally redact names, phone numbers, email addresses, addresses and ID numbers when you export.
- Tag notes by client or case and filter them instantly.
Now in seven languages
The app itself is now available in English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese (Simplified and Traditional).
Getting 2.0
OffgridScribe 2.0 runs on iPhone with iOS 17.6 or later. There's still no subscription: you can try Premium features for free, then unlock Premium with a single one-time purchase. Full details are on the OffgridScribe page.
